Hartsoe Pottery Tall Spindle Vase

Striking as a floor sculpture or containing flowers, this spindle vase reflects functional potter Jason Hartsoe’s interest in seemingly disparate ceramic traditions. Having apprenticed with master potters in Japan and England and worked as artist-in-residence at the revered Penland School of Craft in North Carolina, Hartsoe celebrates the surprising unity and collective nature of these rich craft traditions. His pieces are made of coarse NC clays and wood-fired to 2200 degrees. “My design is to encourage something new from the past and, in so doing, to create something vital and lasting.”
