Antique English Silver Presentation Spur
$600.00
This sterling silver spur was made in Birmingham, England in 1877 by a silversmith hallmarked “GRT”. The inscription reads: Presented to Lord Binning on his 21st birthday by the outdoor Servants at Mellerstain, 1877. George Baillie-Hamilton, Lord Binning, lived from 1856 to 1917 and was a leading officer in the British Army. Mellerstain House was designed for his family by William Adam and lavishly completed by Adam’s son Robert in 1778. It is considered one of Adam’s finest works and one of Scotland’s greatest houses. Heavy and beautifully crafted, we think this is a charming paperweight or objet for history buffs and equestrians alike.
