Tennant New York 1933 World’s Fair Lamp

$2,975.00

This floor lamp features an oil-paper shade made from a vintage souvenir parasol from the Japanese Pavilion at the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. The lacquered bamboo column is wrapped with rattan and the base is painted seagrass. Brass fittings, leather accents and a cloth-covered cord complete the modernist profile. The parasols in Tennant New York’s World’s Fair Collection are individually-sourced antiques, so the resulting shades may have small imperfections and repairs, reflecting their historic character.

Writer, artist and former magazine editor Christopher Tennant is fascinated by cultural artifacts. His work references elements of Surrealism, Victoriana and the natural world. Made to order by hand in his Brooklyn studio, his playful lamps incorporate upcycled vintage materials with finely-crafted modern finishings.
