Amaryllis in Forcing Vase

Our forced amaryllis are a holiday tradition! Each year, we order the best bulbs from the finest grower in Holland in March and refrigerate them through summer in darkness and dormancy, mimicking winter. Around Halloween, we nestle them into forcing vases where, in the warm sunshine indoors, these sleeping beauties gradually awaken to bloom just in time for the holidays.

Choose from six varietals and plan to pick up at our week-long holiday show at 2321 Crescent Avenue the first week in December! Earlier pickup arrangements may also be made. Enjoy blooms for months, then plant the bulb outside to return each year.

Care instructions: Place vase in a warm, bright spot. When water turns cloudy, hold the bulb gently in place while tipping the vase to pour out the water. Lift the bulb slightly to allow fresh water in. Keep the water level just below the base of the bulb to prevent rotting.

A note on timing: Mother Nature is on her own schedule and each varietal differs, but forced bulbs generally bloom in 4-6 weeks, more quickly the brighter and warmer the room. We placed our bulbs in vases over water on November 2, so expect blooms by the first week in December.
